New Dyslexia Specialist Graduate Program Through Fitchburg State University

Wilson is proud to be part of  Fitchburg State University’s (FSU) new Dyslexia Specialist Concentration. This graduate program awards an M.Ed. in Special Education and incorporates Wilson Reading System® (WRS) certification into the curriculum.

Graduates will earn WRS Level I Certification and WRS Level II Certification along with their master’s degree to prepare them to support students with dyslexia. The curriculum also includes courses that focus on the foundations of literacy, address larger educational concerns, and offer a process for successful implementation of best practices. Much of the coursework content is aligned with the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading as set forth by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA).

Those who have completed WRS Level I or Level II Certification within the past four years may be eligible to apply that coursework toward this degree program; please contact FSU to determine if you qualify.

Classes are offered in an online format. While this 39-credit program can be completed in two years, up to six years are allowed to meet the degree requirements.

This program is ideal for educators who are currently working as or would like to pursue career opportunities as a Title I or reading teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, private tutor, special education teacher (moderate special needs), or special education reading specialist.

If you are considering pursuing a master’s degree in education, we encourage you to learn more about the Dyslexia Specialist Concentration on FSU’s website. If interested, please contact Fitchburg State University at gce@fitchburgstate.edu or 978.665.3182.
